It never ceases to amaze me...
...that people just can't understand why someone would want to wear a kilt.
In the pub last night in Asheville, NC. Woman sits down at the next table, looks over, and asks "Were you in Charlottesville, Virginia yesterday?" "No" says I. "Well I thought you might have been. There was some kind of bagpipe event there."
Mind you, Charlottesville, Virginia is about a 6 hour drive from where we were sitting.
Amazing.

Walking out of Denny's Ventura (about two miles from the site of Games) Sunday morning, Bob got asked the "do you play the pipes?" question for the first time. He was wearing Stillwater Nightstalker, black polo shirt, black hose with red flashes, and black ankle boots. Never seen a band in that uniform!

Why? It's scottish attire, and you're in America.

Amazing.
Not unreasonable to think you could drive 6 hours in one day.
Seriously, some of you are just too sensitive. If you're going to wear an unusual garment, get used to 1) getting questioned about and/or getting stared at 2)it being tightly interwoven with bagpipes.
It is, what it is.

I passed an African-American lady today and the first thing she said was "so is it comfy?". Well, of course we all know what I said and she responded that that was always what she heard and then she said "it looks great on you.". Thanks! It's the little things.

I get asked if I'm playing the pipes all the time. The only emotion that arises is that I feel bad for having not tried yet.

When asked if I play the pipes I answer: No. I'm not allowed to start another hobby.
Most women get a big smile and laugh out of this answer.

I was asked if I "played the pipes" twice in one day. I replied "No. But if you'd like to buy them I'll try!". Got two good laughs, but no offers.

Lol.
I remember I was asked at the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow by a New Zealander
"Are you in a band?"
"no, why?"
"oh - just because you're wearing a kilt. Why are you wearing one if you're not in a pipe band"
"because I like wearing a kilt to events - especially Scottish-orientated events"
*shocked face* "oh right"
It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom -- for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.

In a shopping centre car park:
"Where are you playing your pipes? "
(At the time I was not even thinking of trying to play the pipes)
ME: I do not play the pipes.
" You are wearing a kilt, and not playing the pipes, why?
(The gent is dressed in plaid shirt and blue jeans with high top boots)
ME: You are roping cattle today, have you already herded them to market?
" I don't herd cattle???"
ME: You wear jeans, riding boots, flannel shirt and bandana, you must rope cattle.
" I wear this for comfort!" ME: So do I!.
