So on to the topic i have a new hobby i have started up Koi ponds! This is my 1st pond during the construction process. not the best but still a work in progess. Here is the small mini pond I have that houses some plants and such it pours into the main pond. Just wanted to drop in and say hey and let some of the folks that are still around what i was up to.

I was wondering about you the other day when I placed my order for a Fraser Hunting kilt from Rocky. You couldn't find a hobby a little less back breaking? Semper Fi
It looks like you've made a good start. I've got a small pond of my own that I keep goldfish in. I've built a lot of watergardens/goldfish/koiponds at work. If you've got any questions you can P.M me or post them. I'm no "expert", I've just "been there, done that"
Miah, It looks very nice. I have a roughly 350 gallon set up using a rubbermaid round horse trough and three lined wine barrels. Nothing but goldfish and minnows and lots of plants. Water gardening is wionderful. There is nothing like the noise and movement a water feature brings to a garden. What you are building looks pretty advanced (1500 gallons?). If you haven't already read it I highly recommend "The Pond Doctor" by Helen Nash http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/080...730257?ie=UTF8 Lots of good basic information for someone interested in water gardening. I look forward to seeing more installments on your pond. Cheers

Very cool! Glad to see ya around again!
Paul Murray Kilted in Detroit! Now that's tough.... LOL
The pond is about 1100 gallons now. Next summer I am going to expand to between 3000 and 5000 gallons I am so Hooked I have a about 6 small koi in there now.
I had a pond aprox the same size w/ Koi at my last place. I started with 3 wal-mart fish and they grew to enormous size and reproduced prolifically. It really hellped that house sell quickly to have it. O'Neille
Miah, looks like a great start on that pond. The weather has be rather warm this summer for that kind of work. Maybe on some Friday you can bring the kilt with you and we'll have a kilt night here in the Springs. I know there is one other kiltie here now and we might get GMan down from Denver. IF he has business here at the same time.
That looks like a very enjoyable hobby.
I've done a lot of research and photography in Japanese Gardens around the North American continent (that's how I got to go to Canada the first couple of times) and this koi and pond thing is just simply a really good, fufilling and healing kind of thing...hobby or obsession...but try not to get obsessed. I've been in some fantastic places where the carp will basically crawl up onto the shore to take food from your hand...and these were some dreadnought class koi, brothers and sisters...big enough to be almost scary. When I say to not get obsessed, I guess I'm thinking of the folks who are charting the water temperature every thirty seconds and checking the pH hourly...one of the nice things involved in "ponding" is that you can do some basic research, set things up nicely and then let nature take its course and enjoy. Looks like you're going to enjoy your set-up. Best AA
