Hiking this would be awesome. Biking maybe even better.

If only I didn't tear those ligaments in my ankle.

Any of our more local members who can advise on logistics of a trip like this please chime in. Specifically, are there places along this route to hang a hammock or would I be condemned to the ground for lack of trees? P1M? I see it's not far from Dumfries (relatively ) Maybe about the same distance from Hawick if Cessna has any insights?

Cavscout - about 16 years ago I did a section of this that connects with the Pennie Way. Total was 80 miles with a Boy Scout Troop! We found plenty of places to camp along the way. Take a good tent with bug screens, the no-see-ums and gnats are fearsome in the summer. They would eat you alive in a hammock. We used guide books for the Pennine Way and they list places to camp. It is a glorious part of the country and I can definitely recommend it.

There are also a number of superb country house hotels in the area where you can park up the Bentley, enjoy a whisky after a superb meal, and partake of an excellent breakfast at nine the next morning.

All in all a far more civilized way to tour Scotland.

I have done that and it was quite memorable even to a 10 year old. My father had a colleague who collected cars and he bought a 195? Bentley and let us drive it around Scotland. Two lasting memories: Counting somewhere on the order of 1000 sheep in half an hour or so and my sister [5 at the time] losing her cookies all over the rear seats and burled walnut . Ok make that three memories, that car got a lot of respect on the single lane bridges .
