Panic in the South
We're getting snow flurries this evening in North Ga. This mean it's it time for the ancient Southern tradition of going forth and buying milk and bread.
Now excuse me while I make preparations for the end of civilization.
Around here Snow = Panic!

Yes, I was baffled by this tradition when I moved to Maryland from Pennsylvania. We just happened to be grocery shopping the first time the news called for snow. There was literally no milk, bread, or toilet paper left when we got there in the evening. We actually asked a clerk, who looked at us as if we had three eyes, then explained that it was going to snow.

Oh no! As long as it doesn't reach North Florida my corner of the Earth should be fine.

I remember this phenomenon when I lived in PA. I wish I could head to a grocery store right now to see what kind of mad rush there is. We're supposed to get up to 6" here. I haven't seen anything but a trace in the 4+ years I've been here.

Same here in Asheville, NC. The rumor going around for a long time was that the local TV station was in cahoots with the local BIG grocery chain. When bread & milk sales were down, snow was forecast. Problem solved. We're getting SOME snow, but they missed the boat on the forecast as usual... Looks like I might get some kilted snow time tomorrow though if the small amount comes thru that we're supposed to get.

The grocery stores are PACKED. We're calling for 2-4" tonight and another inch tomorrow. Think I'll stay home. OOPS. I'm retired. I always stay home!

Used to drive truck cross country and it always amused me when southerners would panic over a little snow. 6 or 8 inches of snow is normal up here in Michigan!! Just north of me at the ski area I frequent they have had 136" so far this season!

Wow. Flurries, that means no school tomorrow, right?I had a friend ask why we had 'issues' with snow in Ohio, and the simple answer is that we can't have snow tires here. It snowed last week, and some streets are still barely passable. Of course, this town has other issues right now...
