Re: Payment preferences online
I prefer paying with my (Visa) credit/debit card through a secure checkout process, or through Paypal.
Cheers,

I've never had any problems with paypal. In fact, I've been able to get my money BACK a couple of times by appealing to Paypal before their 90-day (?)
window-of-opportunity.... for non-kilt-related purchases/vendor problems.

Re: Payment preferences online
I prefer Paypal.
Using a credit card is easy, except when ordering from overseas. Each time I try to use my credit card directly through a foreign website (especially the UK), my credit card company denies the charge. They apparently have a lot of problems with credit card fraud in the UK, so I'm forced to pre-authorize the charge and try it again.
It's just a big hassle, and I never have that problem with Paypal.
I also dislike calling in with a verbal credit card number, especially since there's such a time difference (and often a language barrier) involved. Paypal is quick, simple, painless, and doesn't care what time of the day it is.

Re: Payment preferences online
I greatly prefer to both PAY with, and receive payments FROM Paypal.
In addition to their window of protection, if you make your payment to Paypal with your credit card, you will get your CC's protection in addition to PayPal's, which is useful for custom orders which might take longer than Paypal's 45 day window.
That said, I am now using "Square", a small business credit card processing service as well. It provides micro-businesses with the ability to process CC payments directly without standard bank fees of ~$50/mth for the swiper handset and +6% or more of each transaction in bank fees.

Re: Payment preferences online
I most often use my PayPal account with my AmEx card. I do use a credit card on selected websites that I trust to be secure.
