    Possibly going Blue to Green

    Good day all,

Had enough of this Navy life. Too long to go into in a post but it's gotten to the point that whatever I would get from my retirement at the age of 60 isn't worth 3 more years of these people.

To save my 20 I am looking into the Guard. In contact with them right now. Just the basic feel out stage.

So what can you Army folks tell me about what I may get myself into? I know I have to do the full Boot (at 43), I know I will most likely take a lose of rank from E6 to E5 but will be back eligable within a year (retirement is at the highest rank attanded so I will always get E6 retirement pay), and I will now be subject to recall from both National and State.

    Thanks,
    Jim

Re: Possibly going Blue to Green

There could have been a change since I retired in October 2009. At that time, if we got folks in from the Navy or Air Force they would just attend the Warrior Transition Course. Not a full basic training. We even had to send one soldier back from Afghanistan to attend. You might want to inquire about the Warrior Transition Course. As I said, though, there may have been changes. Also, you could inquire about Active Guard/Reserve jobs. They are active duty positions within the NG units. If you were to retire from an AGR position, you would receive your pension upon retirement, not age 60.
