Really bad news.
Rant warning:
To cut a long story short I won't be able to go to America until the beginning of June.
Basically I had a one way ticket booked because that was the easiest way to sort out going and taking Pip along with me.
However, I've now been told that they absolutely will not allow me into the country on a one way ticket.
I MUST have a return within 90 days or they will send me right back on the next plane.
The reason for this is in case my Spousal visa doesn't get granted for whatever reason.
I've spoken to 4 different Immigration officers about this and they've spoken to the officers who will actually meet me as I enter the country and look at my forms.
No dice.
Now, I cannot get a refund for the ticket I booked for myself because it is too late and I have already signed a contract for it. (It had been a rolling ticket until the moment I finalised my leaving date.)
Since they can't sell the seat to anyone else I don't get my money back.
On top of this Diane's car is pretty much a goner. So all the savings I have at the moment are going to getting her a new one. (Without her car she can't work since part of her job involves driving around to see her clients.)
Where does this leave me?
Frantically saving all of my wages every week to pay for new tickets in June and making sure I have the money to pay the visa application costs.
I'm really frustrated and angry, but I have already been down every single path to sort out anything I possibly can and June is the soonest date I can make it.
Ah well. At least I will get there eventually.

I'm very sorry to hear this Arlen.
I'm sure everyone here has had money troubles at some point in their lives and can sympathize.
In the big scheme of things though, these will pass and the important things (like the ones you love) are what really matter.
Cheers

Can you get the ticket transfered to some one else and sell it on ebay?

It must be very frustrating Arlen, but I am sure this will all work out well for you in the end as your spouse is a native of the USA, and you should get your spousal visa to remain there in the fullness of time. The USA is the only country which refused me a visitor visa, back in 1987, and that was because I had visited one of the communist bloc countries fifteen years earlier.

I'm trying to find out about that just now.
They could either go to Denver and ignore Boise or go to Boise.
They would, however, still have to buy return tickets of their own unless they had an American passport or visa of some sort.
Thank you for all the well wishes, guys.
Diane and I will make it, it is just another horrible brick wall to hit up against.

If it's your dream, you will make it to the states one day.
There are plenty of kilted people here that would enjoy another addition to their numbers.

I'd like to add my commiseration to the others about your situation. It really, really sucks. I'm wondering if this delay might complicate your traveling with Pip. Would coming to NYC first make a difference?
Hey, how about just buying a one-way return ticket for a month after your currently planned arrival date? Get a rock-bottom one, regardless of the reliability of the airline, just to have it to show Homeland Security. Just a thought, literally off the top of my head.
