Remember the Peacekeepers
October 23, 1983 At 0622 an explosive-laden truck slammed into the BLT headquarters building in Beirut, Lebanon, where more than 300 men were billeted. The massive explosion collapsed the building in seconds, and took the lives of 241 Americans--including 220 Marines. This was the highest loss of life in a single day for Marines since D-Day on Iwo Jima in 1945.
This day will always be etched in my mind, I lost Brothers that day, not related by blood, but in spirit. I personally knew some of those who died, having served with them in Hawaii, while stationed at Marine Barracks. I have come to know others, who survived the explosion, and together we carry the memories of our Brothers. I patrolled the streets of Beirut with Weapons Plt, Fox Company, 2 Bn 6th Marine Regiment.
I ask each of you to say a prayer for the Marines, Sailors, and Soldiers, who lost their lives, that day, and the time we were in Beirut, trying to bring peace to a people whose lifes were wracked with death from war. I ask you to remember these fine men, and to never let their memories fade, to remember, this was one of the first strikes, in the battle we are fighting today..
This is not a political message, but a request for prayers for the men and their families, who gave up so much, for the men that carry the scars of that time.. the ones you can see, and the ones you cannot.. I just ask for this and for you to not forget the Peacekeepers, for they came in Peace.
“Don’t judge each day by the harvest you reap, but by the seeds you plant.”
– Robert Louis Stevenson

All Canadians have a special place in our hearts for Peacekeepers. We are forever greatful for their sacrifices and accomplishments. Regardless of their home nation they are of one purpose the loss of one is a painful loss for all. It is of no doubt that this world is a better place because of them.

Eternal Father, grant, we pray,
To all Marines, both night and day,
The courage, honor, strength, and skill
Their land to serve, thy law fulfill
Be thou the shield forevermore
From every peril to the Corps.
— J. E. Seim (1966)

Semper Fidelis - Remember that although that means that US Marines are "Always faithful" to their God, Country and Corps, it also must remind all of us to be always faithful to our military ment and women, fighting to keep us free.

Lord, hold our troops in your hands. Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us in our time of need. Amen.

Thanks for the reminder. I lost 5 brothers from my corps school class that day. A prayer said and a glass raised.
