I leave out for this charity ride in about 30 minutes. It's a fundraising ride to raise fundage and awareness for the Autism Society of Maine. This is a particularly important ride as my eldest child has very mild Autism. This developmental disorder affects 1 out of every 150 children born these days. It is more common than Down Syndrome, Multiple Sclerosis, and cystic fibrosis, yet has less funding for research than any of these. Today's ride will be a 25 miler and will be preceeded by a small parade by the participants. I'll not only be doing the ride and the parade, but I'll be doing both while wearing a kilt (with my riding shorts underneath... regimental would be a bad thing for this *painful grimace*). When I register, I will be delivering $958 in total, raised from a total of 68 generous people.
A worthy cause, and much better publicity for the kilted than that amorous couple in MN a while back Have a safe and successful fund raiser!
Moved from General Kilt talk to Off Topic.
Well... I didn't finish in 1.5 hours like I had planned. I finished in about 1 hour 45 minutes. Of course, the ride was also 5 miles longer than advertised, which no one minded. I did the whole ride in my kilt. I was interviewed by a reporter from a local newspaper, and he said he'd mail me a couple copies. I'll scan and post that when I get it. I might also have been captured on camera by a local TV news crew. I'll check their website later... we don't get the channel in question. The wife hasn't uploaded the pics to the PC yet. As soon as that happens, I'll post.
Outstanding!
Well done,that man!
