As to the article in the link to the Sun regarding the scarf commemorating the visit of Pope Benedict XVI, it seems that an inexperienced Polis was a bit over zealous.
I am a wee bit concerned that this topic can stay within the rules of XMTS though.
just noticed Peter you are originally from Uddingston, I'm originally from Bellshill, Old Boyd Tunnock is still going strong, caramel wafers and teacakes are brilliant, he still drives his father's Rolls Royce, reg AT1

I hate to interrupt, but what are caramel wafers?

When given a choice, most people will choose.

The best chocolate biscuits (cookies) known to man, layers of biscuit wafer and caramel coated in milk chocolate. They're awesome

Should rename this thread Scotland's Pride after extolling the virtues of Tunnocks caramel wafers and teacakes.

Quite right Jimmy! In all seriousness and without being too chauvinistic, I do recognise our country's problems, warts and all. However, we have more that unites us than divides us, and more reasons to feel honest pride than shame.

They're better without the chocolate... and certainly were cheaper by the box from Healy's butchers in Glasgow... Not sure if they still sell them there...

Are those chocolate caramel biscuits available in the colonies and if so, under what brand name?

Re: Scotland's Shame
Piperdbh,
Here's the website for Tunnocks caramel wafers. I have been getting them at our local World Bazar. I offered them at our Highland Games this fall along with the Infamous Welsh Cookies when the vendor was present. The website of World Bazar doesn't have them available. They are available (as most things are) through Amazon.

Tunnocks (of Uddingston, Scotland) with red and gold striped wrappers with the bakery's name in red on a white diamond. They export around the world and many of the big confectionary corporations have offered to purchase the company but it has stayed within the Tunnock family for the last 120 years. They also make 'Snowballs', 'Tea Cakes', and 'Caramel Logs'.
