    Snowbound in Seattle

Right now I am snowbound in the Seattle area, thanks to a really poor performance by Alaska Airlines. AA appears to have had no operating instructions or plans for such a snow storm. But they grounded the flight because they ran out of deicer. All the other airlines managed to fly but not Alaska and so left 1000s of folks stranded. As for me, six and one half hours in line and I was told they couldn't reschedule my flight until Dec. 24 late in the day. The one good thing that happened was a nice looking flight attendant who really liked the sporran I was wearing and comment that it was a work of art. So Mrs. Kiltman and I are spending our 38th wedding anniversary at the Motel 6. Sorry for the rant about Alaska, but they were totally unprofessional.

That's frustrating, to say the least. Hope you're able to do something to get back to the other side. Maybe the roads will improve enough in the next day or two that you could rent a SUV or something to drive back to Spokane. Currently looking at 19" of snow in our backyard...

Bummer. You could always look into renting a dog sled.

Around here, the mere rumor of snow causes chaos.

Rather ironic that Alaska Airlines were the only ones to run out of de-icer, you would think that with the Alaskan climate they would always be prepared for cold weather.
Hoping the motel room is comfortable and that you won't be Sleepless in Seattle.

I hope at least that Alaska Airlines, having admitted that the delay is their fault, and not directly weather related, have picked up the tab for the motel. But somehow I feel they will probably try to weasel out of that as well.

For those out of the Seattle area, this is a once in a decade snow storm. We don't get much snow at sealevel. I can only imagine he frustration of Kiltman. The financial woes of airlines is probably the cause of the de-icer not keeping ample supllies topped off plus the large demand. Kiltmans final destination of Spokane has been hit hard with even worse.

Thanks for all the responses. Right now I'm sitting in the Seattle AP hoping that the plane from Spokane gets here. We've changed to Southwest. Alaska is not flying today either! We're headed for Sacramento to be with our children for Christmas, maybe.

Snow? Oops--better run out and get some bread and milk if there's any left in the stores!

The bread and milk run at the hint of snow seems to be a Southern tradition.

    Lessons in snow and sand

On a ski trip some years back, my ex and I ran into some sort of trouble with Alaska Air - not sure if that was when it was a cancelled flight due to "equipment trouble," when in fact it was, according to an insider, not enough passengers - but I do recall looking up the name of the company CEO, getting her number out of directory assistance, and reaching her husband one evening by phone (she was out for the evening) to lodge a complaint. Yeah, she didn't see that one coming.

That was another life ago, when it seemed more rewarding to "teach someone a lesson" rather than generate some sort of change or other result. Sometimes there is really only so much you can do, and one can often get many miles out of having the grace to say in-shah-allah, if it is God's will, and malesh if it's not.

    Regards,
    Rex.
