Perhaps if you posted said youtube link...

Are you prehaps referring to the Repeal of the Act of Proscription in 1782?

I think you'll find that the "whole spiel" is a bunch of inaccurate romantic hogwash. As Todd has mentioned before the actual history behind the "kirking of the tartan" is much more compelling than the misinformation that is normally conveyed. If Todd doesn't chime in I'll look up the newspaper articles that describe the origin of this "Americanism"...

Nothing I'm familiar with...you might try contacting that particular parish and see if they would send you a copy of the order of service.

Well the second bit seems to be a reading of the Repeal of the Act of Proscription, as was suggested. I couldn't quite make out everything that was said right at the beginning when knocking on the door frame. Something about all Scots coming in peace, of course said while carrying an unsheathed sword, so sort of a historical equivalent of the saying, "Peace, through superior Firepower". Which in a church setting fills me with mixed feeling.

In the 1st Battalion of the Cameronian Regiment it was customary for pickets to be posted at the four corners of the kirk to symbolize the armed sentries that guarded the outdoor meetings (conventicles) of the Covenanters during the Killing Times of the 1600s.

"The Scots, and descendants of Scots, wish to enter this Kirk, to worship the LORD our God in peace."

Did anybody else notice the "flexibility" in the 'piper's tempos?
