    Sporran identification

Wondering if anyone out there can identify this Cameron Highlanders sporran. Is it levee dress? Pipers? I’ve never seen one like this before. Thanks in advance.

Oh wow I had one like the years ago, sold it to a bloke in Canada. scalloped edges on the sporran tassels bells, yep. When I bought mine from a used military surplus dealer out of Leicestershire England, it was advertised as an Officers QOH sporran. That's as best as I can remember.....hope this helps

OC Richard will undoubtedly know the answer. If not, I have a pal (not on XMarks) that will.

I hope Richard joins the thread and if your friend knows anything, it would be appreciated, thanks. I can’t find images of officer’s sporrans online and I have no books that include it. Hmmm.

This is sporran with unusual and strange cantle.

Until 1961 the Queens Own Cameron Highlanders officers wore either levee/mess dress sporrans like this

    or undrress sporrans like this:

starting from 1961 after amalgamation with Seaforth Highlanders they use only one pattern of sporran like this:

and in your case I suppose we see that last one with Queen Own Highlanders (Seaforth and Camerons) sporran badge replaced by Cameron Highlandres (there are some of them without "cameron" inscription) cap badge.

Pipers of those Highland regiments also wore sporrans of different patterns.

    Conclusion...

So do you think what I might have is the sporran of an officer of the Cameron Highlanders, who’s chosen to retain his Regimental identity post amalgamation with the Seaforths?

    And the answer is..

For anyone following this with interest, a retired QOH has confirmed it is a Cameron Highlanders ORs No.1 dress sporran. Mystery solved!

    I know?!

That’s what I was told and it did come with an ORs kilt. I’ve enquired elsewhere just in case my source is contradicted. He is ex-QOH, not Cameron Highlanders but that’s what he reckoned.
