Starkholmes Gala with Battle of Britain Memorial Flight

No, not a Scottish or kilt related event although I was wearing a kilt, the only one, not surprisingly for the middle of England. Although just a minor village event, every year someone manages to pull some strings with the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. Last year we got a Dakota fly past, this year it was a Hurricane. It was supposed to be a Spitfire (my all time favourite aircraft - the shape is just beautiful), but apparently they did overtime on the 6th June this year as I suspect they did in 1944, so all had exceeded their flying hours.

As I was the one taking the pictures, if there is one of me in my kilt there, it is not mine and being somewhat distracted trying to keep an eye on my grandson, (seen here on the slide) Click image for larger version.

ID:	19530I never thought to ask anyone. We also had a regular troupe of Belly Dancers which one of my daughters dances with, but not at the gala; seen here with and without audience participation.

If you are going to do it, do it in a kilt!

Looks like a wonderful fun time. Thanks. Rare to see photos of a Hurricane in the air.

I don't think I've seen one on its own before, more usual to see a Spitfire, Hurricane and Lancaster together, but as time goes on, I guess it will more often be one or the other especially as I understand there is only one Lancaster still flying in the UK.

Aye its been a few years now since I last saw the BBMF Spitfire and Hurricane escorting the Lancaster.
The other flying Lancaster is due to visit the British Isles from its base with Canadian Warplane Heritage at Mount Hope Airport, Hamilton, Ontario, and both Lancasters are expected to fly together at the Scottish Air Show at Prestwick on the first Saturday of September.

Alex, you are correct. As part of news coverage around D-Day, there was a nice piece about the Andrew Mynarski V.C. Lancaster preparing for the big trip from Ontario to England. We used to live very close to the airport in Mount Hope, and grew accustomed to being over-flown by the Lancaster. I miss hearing it thunder overhead. I can only imagine what the two of them would sound like.
