    Steve McVeigh aka Bugpiper

    Hi folks,

In the course of some transactions on ebay, I received a message yesterday to tell me that Steve McVeigh died suddenly on Sunday morning.

I have seen his name mentioned on several posts in the forum although I am not sure if he was a member. That said, he was a fairly prolific seller of military and traditional highlandwear so I know a good many of the forum members will have either known him or have had some contact with him. Although I can't claim to have known him, I thought it best to post for the members who would want to know about this.

    Fitz

Thanks for sharing this sad news. I have purchased several UK military items from him over the years. Great products and he provided excellent service. Condolences to his family. He will be missed by me.

Sad news, indeed. I've had a few positive dealings with him. I might be wrong, but wasn't he a relatively young man?

So sad to hear this news. I bought two kilts from him (a new 16oz Mackenzie and a reconditioned 18oz Gordon) and was toying with buying another in the near future. He was very friendly to deal with and his kilts are top quality.
The Kilt is my delight !

Yikes! I wonder what happened. I too have purchased militaria from him on eBay and always had good service. I hope his friends and family are coping with this loss.

Hopefully it's not crass to pose this question so soon after hearing the news, but I wonder what will happen to his business and his inventory?

The is very sad news, indeed. I've purchased quite a few items from Steve via ebay and he was exceptionally good at customer service and rapid mailing. I will miss his reputability and excellent militaria. My thoughts go out to his family and friends.

Gee, I'm sorry to hear that. I may have done business with bugpiper myself. I definitely recognize the user name from ebay.

Not sure what happens with the business. He had his own site as well as ebay. The message I received was by someone on his behalf but not sure if it was family or not although she said that her husband was trying to sort affairs out but that it was delayed by the wait for a death certificate.

I noticed that he has posted a feedback message as if he were a customer on bugpiper's account to inform and reassure customers but in relation to my own transaction, it remains unanswered so I imagine they don't have authority to take over the account from ebay yet. Seems to be a fairly solid business so it would be a shame if it were to fold but it definitely requires someone with a specialist knowledge of military regalia and piping to take over.

Here it is stated that he died of oral cancer

I had a number of dealings with Steve over the years, all good! A great guy to do business with. Most of the cool stuff on Ebay was his.

His site has a recent photo of him, and if you click on it you will see him in his days as a piper in The Gordon Highlanders

I can't get the site to do anything else though.
