Tenth Victim Game
Some of the references to LARP in another thread got me thinking about a project...and the wheels got to turning....and I remembered something from my college days and since this forum has such a great concentration of members who are of about the same vintage as I am...
Does anybody remember playing a game based on the movie The Tenth Victim when they were back in college? I never participated in one but I remember that it was somewhat popular back "in the day". A central administrator would assign each player another player who they were supposed to "murder" by some devious and creative means...your name was given to someone else so you were in the position of trying to "kill" your assigned player while knowing that some person unknown was stalking you in the meantime.
Well...paranoia was all the rage back then, wasn't it?
The game would proceed through as many rounds as necessary to get it down to the last man standing.
I only thought of this in terms of setting up a city wide role playing game based on a Victorian espionage/detective theme...I recommend watching the most excellent videos of "The Rivals Of Sherlock Holmes" to you all...these are part of my inspiration. Rather than having role players trying to bump each other off willy nilly, I was thinking in terms of some kind of caper involving a significant gem or some military plans as the focus. Of course, since this is me planning it, it would consist of sessions in as many of the pubs here in Chicago as I can manage...so basically an excuse to dress eccentrically and go out and eat and drink with a bunch of like-minded folks.
Anybody remember that college game?

We played a game similar to this called assassination. We used a rubber band as the bullet. You were given a target to eliminate and there had to be no witnesses. If you were spotted you were done.

Like D&D and other such things, it was accused of causing clinical paranoia and nervous breakdowns amongst its participants. Not to mention a loss of grade point average. Fun though.

We called it 'Assassination' too. But we'd also use spoons (had to tap the person), water guns, or frisbees.
