    For Those in the UK

I think most of our UK posters are either south or north of the flooding, but I hope you are all well, & at least relatively dry.

Oooops! Sherry, it seems you know something that I don't! I have not heard about any recent flooding over here, but then I hardly ever read a daily newspaper and usually manage to miss the evening news programmes on TV due to my being on-line or otherwise occupied. Nevertheless, thank you for your concern.

If this happened on Tuesday or Wednesday, we did have a couple of hours of the wet stuff falling on both days but it amounted to very little - just enough to prevent me mowing my lawns. In fact we desperately need rain, and a lot of it. Here in the south of England we still have a hosepipe ban as a result of the extremely light rainfall during the past twelve months. Our local reservoirs are, on average, only 20% full when normally at this time of year they would be 75-80% full. If we have another dry winter we will be in serious trouble next summer! So: let it rain, let it rain, let it rain (but not to the extent of there being flooding!).

There is also quite a bit of flooding in the Northeastern US. New Jersey, New York, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut etc. Something like a foot of rain in some areas. My thoughts go out to those on both sides of the pond.

Just more proof Scots are wiser than Brits-they settled on the high ground!

Now I am confused: the word 'Brit' in fact subsumes all inhabitants of these lands-that is The British Isles.

From the various posts, must assume that BBC News as provided for many is an offering of the drama department.

Or is the SF concept of divergent universes with us?

All Scots are British as are English, Welsh, Ulsterman and channel islands and the Manx. as well as anyone with British citizenship. its just that the British isles are less prone to flooding most of the weather comes from the west and hits high ground and Ireland first
