Watchmen Question (no spoilers)
any watchmen fans out there? i've read the story about three times since it was first collected into a trade paperback years ago, and most recently this week in anticipation of seeing the film last night.
the one question i've always had and that i was hoping would be addressed in the movie is how does rorschach's mask constantly shift through the various permutations of the rorschach ink blot visual? i even went back to the book today to satisfy my curiosity... no luck. unless someone out there points out something obvious to me that i've overlooked, i guess i'll need to do the wise thing and simply suspend belief.
the movie's gotten very mixed reviews, but i must say that i thoroughly enjoyed it. despite being longish, it was paced very well and i felt brought a wonderful new dimension to a story that is already reknowned for its stunning graphic qualities as well as its fascinating, groundbreaking story.
the work is already a comic book classic (regularly turning up on critics' greatest comics ever lists. i think this movie will be viewed in the future as a science fiction classic, as well. i'm sure others will diagree. enjoy!

Saw this on Fri night at the IMAX theatre, awesome...
never read the comics / stories.
I thought it was great, violent adn bloody with heaps of sex scenes but...
then again sitting in a movie where the screen is that big usually makes anything great, and when some one gets punched or shot, it feels like your the one getting hammered...
I'd give it a solid 8.5 / 10

Went to see it yesterday as well, I will not give anything away, though I could not help but think the same thing about the mask, I was wondering if it had anything to do his emotions at the time, though it was never explored, I guess that will remain a mystery.

"1962. Special order for dress in new Dr. Manhattan spin off fabric. Viscose fluids between two layers latex, heat, and pressure sensitive... Nobody wanted it. Meant for me. Took it home. Learned to cut it using heated implements to reseal latex...I took the unwanted remains of her dress...and made a face that I could bear to look at in the mirror"
THE ABYSS GAZES ALSO
Watchmen by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons
So you have a basic explanation of the construction and Dr. Manhattan to make it work.

If you've seen the movie, can you tell me when "Desolation Row" is played?
That's really the only thing keeping me from seeing it. I love that song and I could only listen to the "cover" for about 25-30 secs. But if it were played at the intro or over the credits, I could come late or duck out early...

thanks glen and jamie.
although it's not explicit, i suppose yours' is the most plausible explanation; that kovac's emotions affect the heat and pressure sensitive latex of the mask, thus influencing the viscose fluids between the layers of the mask: voila- rorschach ink blot images...

pretty sure it was used for the end credits.
i also find my chemical romance to be very forgettable and would be bothered if they made a pig's ear of one of my favorite songs, but don't let their inclusion in the soundtrack keep you from seeing the movie...

Ahhh beat me to it!!! Due to a reoccurring flu, I have yet to see the movie. Re-read the GN last night, still after all this time it is soooo good. I just hope that it translates on the big screen better than The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen did.

Highly disappointed with the movie. All sizzle and no steak. No effort was made to the themes of the work and the changed ending does not work. But it sure is perty looking.

Rorschach's emotions don't control the blots, but they do give Rorschach some facial expressions through the mask.
