Weddin' Dancin' --- Any tips?
My wife-to-be and I are going to have some gaelic-esque songs played during our reception, any tips on dances we can do to go along with the mood? I am talking like 18th, 19th, early 20th century style dances of the jovial type. Maybe some braveheart festival type stuff haha.

The Highland Waltz is always nice for a wedding.

I have just started Scottish Country Dancing and have discovered that there are well over 4,700 different dances. The Royal Scottish Country Dance Society recommends a core of 100 dances.
You will never learn them all in time.
I would suggest learning the Waltz, Quickstep and Foxtrot - and learn them well. When the music plays, you and your bride will look good and not foolish.

If you have any SCD dancers, Mairi's Wedding is always nice. I can't remember the figures of the dance from Braveheart--if you could actually follow them--but the tune reminded me of Montgomery's Rant. That's another classic dance.

If you need music, you should be able to record some from Robbie Shepherd's "Take the floor" on radio scotland (available throught the interweb...)

Having had to learn them all at school, along with others, I would say that you want 2 or 3 couples that have done them before, that can either lead for others to follow, or preferably to split and get more people brought up onto the dance floor... and as ever, ensure there's a "lady's choice"

Like the Cotton-Eyed Joe, or Macarena, or Achy Breaky Heart line dancing...but with a Scottish theme?

Good advice Madmacs. You could also try the Eightsome Reel and the more sedate St. Bernard's Waltz.
