Welsh fruitbread and where's Derek?
Since we're headed for St. Davy's Day, I stumbled upon this very simple recipe for Bara Brith and figured that I ought to toss it out here. I had never heard of it but it sounds very good and has a lot of potential for some neat variations.

I'm sure that we'll hear form some of our Welsh friends on this topic.
Which reminds me...has anyone heard from Derek lately? Is he still around or has he been swept up into the heady world of Rocky-Folkie stardom and is busy opening for the Stones on their tour?
Best

We NEVER say "St Davy" - it is either "St David" or "Dewi Sant."
Bara Brith is lovely!
Derek is around - I was unable to get to the last folk (which he PM'd me about) night due to being stuck in Mid Wales sorting out a problem with my Goldwing front tyre but I am hoping to see him, Elaine and friends at the Cardiff parade next Saturday in which case there will be pictures of course!

Or even "Dafydd ar y gareg gwen". Still remember it from my few years at school there 50-odd years ago.

I think that's not the same Dafydd as the Saint Phil:
····· DAFYDD Y GARREG WEN -Cân werin
"Cariwch," medd Dafydd, "fy nhelyn i mi,
Ceisiaf cyn marw roi tôn arni hi.
Codwch fy nwylaw i gyrraedd y tant;
Duw a'ch bendithio fy ngweddw a'm plant!"
"Neithiwr mi glywais lais angel fel hyn:
'Dafydd, tyrd adref, a chwarae trwy'r glyn!'
Delyn fy mebyd, ffarwel i dy dant!
Duw a'ch bendithio fy ngweddw a'm plant!"
DAVID OF WHITE ROCK
Dafydd said, 'Bring me my harp, I'll try to put a tune on it before I die. Raise my hand to reach the string. God bless you my widow and my children.
Last night I heard the voice of an angel saying: 'Dafydd, come home and play through the glen!'
Harp of my childhood, farewell to your music, God bless you my widow and my children!"

That's a simple recipe for Bara Brith.
Mine is similar but I add 1 tsp of mixed/pudding spice to it which makes the flavour richer.
