We're almost an island, show us your NW storm photos.

As some on the forum know, I packed up my family in 2005 and left the San Francisco Bay Area for the Southern Oregon Coast. A tough decision for someone who's family helped found California, but things change and it was time to move on. Through a circuitous route, we ended up living here on a peninsula on a small lake next to the ocean. Rush hour traffic now consists of three cars, an elk and a flock of turkeys crossing the road.

The high winds (sustained at 82mph, gusting to 110mph) and heavy rains have changed the landscape a bit. It's five miles to the main road, with a little over a mile and a half straight stretch through the pastures. If you are observant, you can get an idea of how severe a storm will be, by how the animals are acting. The day before the storm hit, I was traveling the road and it became apparent we were going to have a lot of rain,...the cattle were wearing flotation devices and practicing lifeboat drills.

The school bus was unable to pass through that road yesterday. The road was clear this morning and the children boarded the S.S. school bus for a two hour tour (sorry, I couldn't resist the Gilligan's Island reference.)

Having been in worse storms, we are prepared to ride it out. I hope the other Xmarkers in the Northwest are similarly prepared.

Show us your photos of the storm. To start it off, here's a photo of our lake's normal water level.

A photo of the same dock from this morning.

Thanks for sharing those interesting pics.
I sometimes wonder where all the rain has been coming from these past few months, you would think sea levels would be down from all the water that is falling on the land. Take care and keep warm.

such paradise. I spent a few good college years in Chico, CA and absolutely fell in love with it. Returning to Wisconsin felt lilke leaving just a little bit of my soul behind in Chico. However, taking a road trip through Nor. Cal and into Oregon and Washington was beyond awesome. The scenery there is like no other.

Oregon storms are one reason I moved to Arizona....

I can understand that, Ron. Though I must admit, growing up in San Jose and Monterey, I would look forward to the winter storms.

Back in the '90's ('95 I believe) I was assigned to Phoenix for three months (February thru April) and I enjoyed the dessert. The only downside was having to wear wool suits in the 100+ temperatures we were seeing by mid April.

Our snow was mostly gone by Friday, but we had a windy Sunday. I've lived on the west coast my whole life, and I can't remember wind like this! The sea was high, and water was coming over the breakwater on to the walkway. Even the seagulls were walking backwards! This shot is out at the end of the pier, where few ventured.
