What dishes are included in your feast?

Along with the traditional turkey, dressing, mashed etc. families have added dishes that are traditional to them. In our case my mother started making sewwt baked onions about 40 years ago, and now my sister and I, as well as my daughter all include them in our feast.

Who else has a dish that has become a family tradition?

My Mom makes Skirlie every year, this year my sister in law gave it a go, under the watchful eye of my mother of course.

my side of the family has always served mashed turnips which i don't frequently see on other american tables at the holidays.

as a result of her german heritage and the heavy german influence in maryland, my wife's family in baltimore has always served stewed tomatoes as well as sauerkraut at thanksgiving and christmas. we've taken on the tradition as well.

My wife is PA Dutch and sauerkraut is also on our menu. We usually have seafood of some sort instead of turkey. I made a potato/pumpkin stew this year (served in the pumpkin!!) that looks like it is the start of a long tradition.

Our tradition is in the dessert. Frozen pumpkin torte. Kind of like frozen pumpkin custard/ice cream, with a pecan crust and drizzled with caramel. Actually lighter than pumpkin pie (really), but cool, and satisfying in a warm climate.

We have a very 1950s cranberry salad my grandma's made forever... crush a bag of cranberries in the blender with a cup of sugar. Let it sit for an hour in the fridge. Whip a half pint of whipping cream, add a small can of drained crushed pineapple and a small bag of mini marshmallows. Add the cranberry mixture, stir, and allow to sit in the fridge for at least another hour. Lovely, pink, fluffy, and sweet. It's a crowd pleaser.

We supplement the turkey with venison, if any of us hunters in the family have been lucky. And our stuffing is sort of an Italian version made with hot sausage....
