Why I hate my job this time of year..
Yes I do like my job most of the time, but I really don’t like it this time of year. From September to the end of January, I have to work evenings most of the week. This includes every Wednesday.
Why is this a problem you may ask?
Wednesday evenings are when the local pipe band (and city’s pride) hold their beginners piping classes. The newspaper has been running the ad for the last two weeks. Tonight is the first class and I am here at my desk.
Yet another year missed..

We are right into our christmas merchandising now. It hardly seems that long since we finished last years. I'm on 3 evenings this week.

I missed the first four years of my sons life, working nights. 4x1 and 11x10.
That really was the worst.

Sorry to hear this Sara.
You should contact them for the heck of it and let them know you are interested and ask if they have any suggestions for those that can not make a Wednesday night class. You never know, there might be other options.
Cheers

If you want to pipe, don't wait for free lessons. Call up the band contact number and ask if anyone gives private lessons. Generally, the more individualized attention you get, the better the results you can expect.
The local pipe band in Fairbanks has offered free lessons more than once. There are only a couple of pipers still around who learned for free. The folks who pay for lessons tend to learn faster and stick around a lot longer.
If this is something you want to do, spend the cash (probably $25 a week) and get yourself private lessons. And you probably won't have to do them on a work night!

The piping class and the Scottish Country dance class here both meet on the same evening (Tuesday) and are about to start for the new season. Difficult choice, but I am going back to SCD again this season.
