    Wolf Hall Drama series

You may wonder why I have introduced this TV series currently on BBC here in the UK.
The series is based on the novel by Hilary Mantel, about the life of Thomas Cromwell, Cardinal Wolsley's later Henry the Eighths right hand man.
One thing both the novel and the TV series is famous for is the historical accuracy, to the point that there were viewer complaints of the darkness of some scenes, this was because they were genuinely lit by candel light.
Any to the reason on my words.
It is noticeable that hanging from the belts of the men and used in some scenes is a money pouch identical to very early sporrans seen on this site.
Also the jacket they wear when buttoned up which reaches at least down to mid thigh if not longer, looks quite like a single colour kilt / jacket in one. It shows how the highland dress now and Saxon back then were much closer in stile. It only needed a slight change in fashion back then and the trouser wearers would be in the minority.

I hadn't heard of this series, had to google it.
I see that this six part series is not being shown here in Scotland nor in Northern Ireland which may explain why I had not heard of it.
Much of television costume drama involves a level of speculation or guesswork as to what people would have worn in a particular historic era, although there seems to be general acceptance that many nationalities shared the culture of wearing a belt with a pocket for carrying rations of food etc.

The clothing in this one has been very well researched with a lot of historians involved.

I find this a little strange - it is scheduled on BBC2 Scotland and has been reviewed in the Scottish press. I hardly think the BBC would not show this major adaptation of a booker prize novel in Scotland. You may want to double check, but you can certainly check the costume point via i-player
    Best wishes - Harvey.

And I've been able to watch it in Crieff. An excellent adaptation that will become a classic.
