Xmarker at the olympic games
I finished my first day as an olympic sports official. Was a great day up in the Nordic centre. Helped install the finish line, set up the start zone. Once the races begin I will be involved with getting the athletes to the start line for the cross country ski races. Lots of good energy onsite. Years of being a ski racer. a number of official courses, working a number of world cup races and now the big event is here.
From time to time I will post an insiders view of the games.. if anyone is interested.
ps I may wear my xmarks kilt the last day of the games.... the rules of official's uniform allows for "cultural clothing"

Great Bruce! I love the winter games and envy your proximity and involvement. Kilt up if you can, but enjoy the event. We'll be watching for you.

I wish I could see the Games. I have antenna TV and can't pick up NBC.

you clearly have internet access though...you might not be able to watch in real time, but you can certainly catch up on the day's events online...

I'm definitely interested. I only just started Nordic skiing myself and I'm already hooked.

well,I do think I will be wearing my kilt the last day. The 50 km men's race is the last event.
Today was trail prep for the sprint race on Wed. The sprint race will be partly determined by the waxing and ski structuring as that the snow is near the freezing point and a high moisture level. Today every skier was testing 5-10 (or more) pairs of skis and waxing combinations. The wax techs, in their hobbit-like cabins, will be mixing magic combinations of ski wax, eye of newt, and who-know-what late into the night.
I will try to figure out how to download photos. I have some good ones of the crowd at this afternoon's biathlon race.
