    Yay Phelps!

Phelps just won the 400 IM!! Lochte (Phelp's most likely challenger) had to settle for 3rd.

I know this has nothing to do with kilts and I'm not even really a Phelps fan, but I grew up swimming and he has such great strokes (look at how much he gets off each free stroke) and his turns are simply unfair. If he's somewhere near first, he winds up half a body length ahead off the wall.

Here's hoping he breaks Spitz's record. Swimming doesn't get many headlines; it'd be an amazing achievement and so good for the sport!

But at his medal ceremony, that was the most whacked-out version of The Star-Spangled Banner I've ever heard.

400 IM was the bane of my existence for 3 years. It what the coach made me swim at meets for screwing around at practice. I swam a LOT of 400 IMs.

    Co-ed practices....can you blame me?

Agreed, Phelps is probably part dolphin.

I'm impressed with Phelps, especially because he has ADHD and is succeeding so well.

The NY Times had an article Sunday on how his mother and he used swimming to help him with the ADHD when he quit using medication for it. It is an inspiring story.

2 of the better olympic moments were Breeze in the weightlifting with a damaged back, but still competeing cos she's qualified and Emms & Robertson coming back from 5 points behind to beat the Chinese 2nd seeds

What about the guy who blew out his elbow yesterday in weight lifting? That was painful to watch.

AGREED! I can't believe how long he can stay underwater off that final turn (well, off all of them). Granted, I was never the best swimmer, but some of us would be sputtering for air soon after pushing off.

Speaking of IMers and co-educational swim teams, did anyone notice the Aussie Stephanie Rice? She was VERY talented.

No, really, she's won like 3 golds and everything.
