Yeah...Average White Band. Remember them? Not exactly Celtic music but certainly Celtic Musicians. From Dundee, are they? I see that they're still out there on the road touring...
...but the reason that I bring them up is that I saw a reference to them earlier today and it reminded me of the first time they played Chicago, lo, those many years ago when I still had hair and took a thirty inch waist in the jeans.
I didn't attend that show but one of my buddies was a security/backstage guy for the concert company back then and I remember him telling me about the AWB shortly after the show.
"Y'know that music they play is sooo funky? Well these guys show up...and they're white...which was no surprise but these guys are from SCOTLAND, man! I mean...these guys are running around backstage goin' "Hoot mon this" and "Hoot mon that" and "Och this" and "Och that"...it was weird, man, hearin' these SCOTTISH guys talking like that and then they go out on stage and play the tightest funk that I have ever seen....it was weird."
More than just bagpipes, eh?
Best
