    Cantrip

I've never seen a thread about the band Cantrip before and I just thought I would bring them to the attention of everyone. My wife and I heard them at the Celtic Classic in Bethlehem, PA last September and it was an incredible performance. Judging by the deafening crowd noise at this festival, noone is there to listen to music, just to talk. Crowd noise was so loud that one band, Old Blind Dogs, actually walked off stage because they couldn't hear their feedback monitors. Cantrip was the only band that was able to hold the crowd's attention and shut them up. I picked up their current cd and it is absolutely great. I'm enjoying it more with each listen. I've since ordered their first cd and it is good as well. Neither cd has been out of my changer since they were purchased.

The band is from Edinburgh and features pipes and twin fiddles.

Their Myspace is : http://www.myspace.com/cantriphq if you are interested.

Check out "The MacDonald's Set" for a good representation of their music.
"Sam Jones" is an interesting slower, bluesy song.
A few of the songs start out a little slower and then pick up the pace.

    Enjoy

If you're in Vermont in early August, Cantrip's piper - Dan Houghton - will be an instructor at The Pipers Gathering, teaching pipers and delivering a presentation on pipes. He'll also be performing in one of the weekend's concerts.
    The tradition continues!

Wow. I've been going to that festival every year since 2000 and never had that problem. I usually sit well in the front when I can, though.

Yep. Cantrip is good. I had seen them once before, at the Ligonier Highland games in 2004 (I think that was the year.)

I listen to their CDs a lot.
