Live vs. Recorded

I love live Celtic music, but I'm afraid that it does not come accross in the recorded format.

Maybe it's not the environment I want created at home?

I just posted something to Graham about "The Wicked Tinkers", and it's a PERFECT example of how it's SO much better live. To me, unless you're listening to the slower traditional instrumentals, there's no comparison.

I'm a little tainted with the subject, since I'm in a Celtic band. I know that the energy goes both ways... musicians and crowd. That extra energy is vital to the enjoyment AND the performance.

The only way to get over it, is to go see the bands and then listen to the CDs with the performance in your brain. 8)

I too like any band that is live, just the chemistry involved makes it so much more enjoyable. Some recordings do a pretty good job, but somehow do not quite make it.

You nailed it. A cd can't compete
with a live show too me. 8)
Having said that, if I have seen
the person or group I can relive a little of their show each
time I listen to a cd. It’s not just the music.
I have experienced concerts both ways;
going in blind or knowing much of their music from their CDs.
I find the personality and musicianship of a band is not always as it “sounds on
a cd. That can make the cd even better to me.

My “latest” favorite group is the Ole Blind Dogs. I had one cd of theirs
before I saw them in concert. Now I have just about everything they have made.

I consider a cd of a good group a “fix” till I can
see them live. So kilts aren't the only addiciton I have!
