I was wondering if any of you gents knows a good place online to find traditional (and, of course, open-source -- nothing illegal) Cape Breton fiddle sheet music. I'm having one heck of a time finding any. I play the violin (not all that well) and want to see what I can make of another style of music. Could be fun. Thanks, guys.
I don't have a source for you, but I wanted to recommend Donegal fiddle music. Donegal, just like Cape Brenton, has a very rich, strong fiddling tradition.
I'll look into that as well. Thanks!
Boy...that may be tough...sounds like you might have to try to hunt down something older in antique books circles. The only reason that I bring up that possibility is that there's a sort of precedent that we have in Chicago. We have the "Chief O'Neill" book...this was an effort by a guy who was a Chicago police chief to write it all down before it drifted off. http://www.hotel-ireland.com/dublin-...ill_story.html I've seen websites dedicted to Irish tunes for the flute that have an archive of tunes available ut nothing about the Cape Breton. Sounds like you might have a project on your hands...if a compendium doesn't exist, you may have to put it together yourself. Best AA
Have you tried your local library-they sometimes carry sheet music
The Cape Breton Fiddlers' Association has both MIDI files and sheet music. They would also be a good place to ask about other places to find stuff, I would think. Cape Breton Music Online also looks like a good place to find things.
haukehaien: You seem to have nailed it. Looks like those sites are a good place to start. Thanks! David: Good idea about the library. I'll have to head over and see what I can find when I get the chance. auld argonian: Rats. I think I probably will end up hunting around. Maybe if I can get a big enough collection, I'll put up a website.
I just started the fiddle a few months ago, but the best place I have found for traditional Celtic music (including sheet music) are these: http://www.thesession.org/index.php (great discussion board too) http://rileyirishmusic.com/modules/content/music.php http://www.music-scores.com/skill/co...=2&name=Violin
Thanks. That's more Irish than I'm looking for, but it looks like there's some good stuff there. Frankly I'm trying to find stuff that is traditional to Cape Breton/Nova Scotia. Of course there will be overlap with Ireland/Scotland, though.
