One of the finest pipe band medleys I've ever heard!
As a Bagpiper since the age of 8 (I'm 40 now...gulp), I have seen EXTRAORDINARY piping in my day by masters of the craft, as well as the best pipe bands across the worlds. For those of you who might not be involved in the piping world, "Grade 1" pipe bands are the best that come and these bands usually bring forth musicianship that sets standards for the rest of the piping world. The 78th Frasers were one such band that really brought into view a new standard of band piping in the mid 80's that was innovative, technical and sheer genius. Today this standard has been met and built upon by Grade 1 bands, and it is always a joy for me to hear really good piping. I came across the competition medley by the Toronto Police Pipe Band that was REALLY fantastic and probably the best mixed medley I've heard in a long time. Their tuning and execution is flawless, as well as some really nice 2nd & 3rd harmonies throughout the performance. Check them out-Really nice-

As a native born son of Ontario I am proud that the 78th Frasers may be the finest pipe band in the world and the Toronto Police are certainly in the top ten.
Thanks for reminding us!

It was certainly different from the norm in Scottish circles- appears that they've been listening to some Bagad bands!
The intro tune was very nice and I like the fact that they didn't use the standard roll-off. Too bad the piper in the 2nd rank on the viewer's right couldn't get his pipes struck in. I wonder how they scored, what bands they were up against on that particular day.
The first part of the jig they go into around the 2 minute mark is fantastic, in my opinion the nicest bit of that medley.
What that band (and every other band) really needs is around 30 pair of diced hose!

Wow what a fun set. I have only been piping a few years but I had the pleasure of being tutored by Michael McCool of Oran Mor out of New York for a time and for a young piper he is fantastic. Not only is Oran Mor grade 1 but I believe Michael is a grade 1 solo piper as well.
Let YOUR utterance be always with graciousness, seasoned with salt, so as to know how you ought to give an answer to each one.

Thanks for that, Josh. I really enjoyed it (and some of the other Grade 1 medleys). I had read about their 2010 medley, and IIRC it caused a bit of a stir!

Also, another great pipe band...look on youtube for St. Laurence O'Toole at last year's World's. Very inspiring!
