    Piper David Brewer lost everything

David Brewer, fabulous piper and entertainer, gave a stellar performance at the Portland Highland Games. After the event while preparing for a concert tour of Scotland, his car containing all his instruments, kilts, etc. etc was stolen. Latest word is that nothing has been recovered.

from the 2nd paragraph of his bio...

"After four years of consistently drawing large crowds, his local fame reached a new level when his bagpipes were stolen from the pub. The pipes were never recovered, but the community came together and raised enough money to not only replace the stolen pipes, but also send David to Scotland to study with master teachers. Upon returning, David teamed up with Pete Haworth to launch Molly’s Revenge. "

Definitely a man in need of better luck, or at least a car with a very good alarm system.

    What a bummer!!!

I just talked with David recently, down at the San Diego Games.

He's one of the NICEST people I've ever met, and as we all know a fantastic musician.

His Copeland Low D whistle cannot be replaced at any cost because it was unique: someone had accidentally dropped it on the fipple end and dented it, which somehow improved its sound! It's the best-sounding Copeland I've ever heard. This damage will make it easy to identify if somebody tries to sell it on Ebay or whatever.

You never know about these thefts. I have a couple bagpiper friends who have recovered their bagpipes.

One guy had had his original Leo Rowsome uilleann chanter stolen from his own home! He, his wife, and their baby were all asleep upstairs when somebody who knew exactly what they wanted broke in and stole only that chanter. Sure enough about a year later it showed up on Ebay and the police were called. He's back to playing this cherished instrument.

Another friend and his buddy had had both their Highland pipes stolen at a Highland Games back around ten years ago.

So much time had passed that they assumed their pipes were gone forever, but recently a pawn shop several hundred miles away listed both sets for sale on Ebay and the police once again were contacted and the pipes recovered.
