Hawick Highland Games - 22nd June 2008
For those who can get to Hawick, Scottish Borders, this year our local Highland Games are scheduled to take place on Sunday 22nd June.
A highland dancing competition has been added to the event programme for the first time this year which should help boost the crowd, while tossing the caber, hammer throwing, shot putt and tug-of-war will all take place as normal. There will also be a pipe band contest involving at least six pipe bands and a march past at the finish of the afternoon.
Hope to meet a few fellow xmarkers here.

You know I would be there if I could, Alex, but I'll have been home from my Highland Tour only a couple of weeks and I cannot see myself getting back to Scotland so soon after that. Unfortunately, we don't all get special travel concessions either!!!!!
No doubt you will have a great day out all the same.
Take care,
Ham.

Highland games.
ORGANISERS of Hawick Highland Games have warned that unless more people support the annual event, this could be the last year it's held.
Local solicitor Rory Bannerman said: “This could almost be viewed as a make-or- break year for the Highland Games and so the more people that come along, the better prospect we have of having this event grow and prosper for the benefit of the town and its people.”
The games take place from 1-6pm on June 22 in the Volunteer Park.
Attractions include at least six pipe bands, a strong-man competition, a highland dancing competition and display, stalls, a bar, face painting, and a tug-of-war competition open to anyone on the day.
We need more people to support the Highland Games if they are to continue in their native Scotland. Please come along on the day if you are within travelling distance.
