Philly Guinness Nite A Success
Greetings!
Some google research on the Guinness Believer nights turned up a few worrisome posts - mainly that the legal department had put the clamps on the free-flowing beer and that it was now 1 per person.
We attended the event in Philly last night and I am happy to report that this is not the case.
Wow! What a great event. 2hrs of fantastic information, free beer and great food. Surprisingly, I was the only kilted one there and even more surprising was the three empty chairs at our table. One bloke was seated at the bar outside the ballroom - drinking Guinness at $4 or more/pint and paying to eat when he could have just signed up and been admitted to the festival.
The two hours went fast and the host, Patrick, did a great job. There were some guys who obviously had been to the gig before (if you go, make sure you ham up your comments on the doorprize form and fill out EVERY line).
People were friendly and I was called to stand on my chair and model my new custom SK Boulder in army digital camo. COGO (2nd from left in pic) was also applauded for her recent army year in Afghanistan - pretty cool.
There were few women present. One larger girl almost broke her back begging for a pint and a Hershey chocolate bar. The girl who won the framed photo of the St James Gate was scorned a tad by my two beer-swilling female cohorts (she didnt appear to be drinking beer and gave away her canned Guinness to her boyfriend) - a beer-drinking girl in another group was heard to say, "she probably hates beer and only came along to make sure he behaves". Too funny.
I would highly recommend this event. Especially kilted!
Anyone else from the Philly area attend any other dates? There are a couple more planned including some Legacy nites. Just google Guinness 1759 Society for full info.
Thank you Guinness - you are dark and beautiful and a nice compliment to my love of Mr Yuengling's lager.
Sincerely,
OE

Ahhh crap it was last night? I missed it. :-( With their fancy pants registration system I think I was expecting Guinness to send reminder emails to all who RSVP'd. D'oh!

I wish I were closer to one of the cities on the tour. I guess I'll just have to have my own Guinness night. Your post inspird me to stop by the store and pick up the fixings to brew some more Irish Stout, plus, I picked up a pint of Guinness Extra Stout.
Looks like you had a good time. Any more pics?

MacMullen, there are some here in Chicago, come on down and visit your friend in blue for a Guiness night! As a home brewer myself, more wine lately than beer, I can understand your inspiration! Let us know how the stout comes out! Do you bottle or keg?

Thanks for the pics! I'm looking at the pics while sitting here drinking a Guinness Extra Stout, and it's almost like I'm there.

I mispoke about the hometown of Steve the Cop. He's from Appleton, Wisconsin, not Chicago. I do have a good friend who's a chemical engineer in Chicago, though, so I should plan a roadtrip.

I started a homebrewing thread in the Off-Topic Forum to answer your questions so as not to hijack the thread.
Remind me again, what are the dates for the Chicago Guinness Nights?
