Advice sought
Hello everyone!
I recently purchased my first (of what I hope will be more) kilt. It is a black Stewart and with it thus far I have added a black Rob Roy style sporran, sporran belt, cream colored hose, black and red colored flashes, kilt pin, and a black Balmoral. I plan on wearing it on St. Paddy's Day and I am at a loss for what top to wear. I have a cream colored Irish fisherman's sweater, but the wife thinks it is too bulky. I have several red crew necked sweaters, but was wondering on the shirt as I will be working outside at a booth for the festival. I have been looking at a few different sweaters with either a button top or cowl necked.
Eventually, I would like to get a hunting MacLoed (my clan) kilt with the Prince Charlie gear, but that will be down the road a bit.
Suggestions?
Thanks,

Re: Advice sought
More info please. Where are you geographically (i.e. weather) who made the kilt - is it an inexpensive kilt or a nice one. Makes a difference.
From what you've offered, think the wife is wrong. Thick sweaters go well with kilts. And, for the sweater you have it would probably be a good color match with your hose.

Re: Advice sought
Hello and welcome,
Enjoy wearing your kilt and exploring many different colours of hose, flashes, jumpers and shirts.
Aran jumpers do go very well with kilts, as do crew neck sweaters, tattershall shirts, tweed jackets... and many other things. Don't be afraid to experiment!
There are also plenty of options other than the Prince Charlie for evening formal wear and I am sure you will enjoy delving into the various options available but whatever you ultimately decide have a fantastic St Patrick's day (co-incidently my birthday; but I digress).

Re: Advice sought
The sweater is perfect. Don't spend too much too soon on kilts. You can go forever on that Black Stewart. Lets see some photos.
And, by the way, Welcome to xmarksthescot from the highlands of Central Massachusetts!

Re: Advice sought
The festival is on the coast of North Carolina in the little town of Emerald Isle. The kilt is from Stillwater Kilts (their standard) so fairly inexpensive as kilts go.
Lime - I will drink one in your honor on your birthday! And any suggestions that you have would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Re: Advice sought
How cold is it outside? or will you be inside? I like the sweaters because of the sometimes intricate cable-knit patterns. and what's even better:
IT MATCHES EVERYTHING IN MY CLOSET! it's the perfect accessory!

Re: Advice sought
It varies quite a bit. Today's high is scheduled to be in he 50's (average this time of year), by Thursday it will be in the 70's, and then back in the 50's for the weekend. Because we are at the coast, there is a lot of wind potential, which can affect how those temps feel.
Thanks!

Welcome from Oklahoma!
Personally, I love a nice cable knit sweater. They are my favorite thing to wear with my kilt on a cool and/or windy day.
