All best from Canada
Hello Fellows!
I'm brand new here, from Canada - an old fellow; I retired from my first job as principal (headmaster) of an elementary ((primary) school and am now a priest with the Anglican Church of Canada (Episcopal). My Gr. 8 project was a small book on Scottish History & the tartans, so you can tell that it's been a passion for a lifetime.
I'm actually no Scot at all My mother was of English descent, and my father was Jewish, so I guess my clan would be the MacGoldsteins (!) but last summer in Edinburgh I was measured up and now take great pleasure in the beauty of the Ancient Clergy (Blue) kilt which hangs in my closet and comes out for as many occasions as I think I can handle.
Glad to be here; "X-Marks" was and continues to be one of my research locations.

and Yokoso from another Canadian, who happens to be living in Japan. You're in good company here, both by nationality and by ethnicity.
Good for you not to feel restricted by a lack of Scottish blood! But perhaps this might catch your interest... The Jewish community of Scotland also have their own tartan... It's quite nice -- here's a link for your research: http://www.jewishtartan.com/ It is, of course, 100% kosher too.

Thanks!
Absolutely fabulous! I've bookmarked the link and will print it out in the morning. It's 2:20 am here, and I'm up with a grumbly tumbly, so I'll hit the hay again momentarily.
Thanks for the reply - you're my first!

Welcome from the we{s}t coast!
EPITAPH: Decades from now, no one will know what my bank balance looked like, it won't matter to anyone what kind of car I drove, nor will anyone care what sort of house I lived in. But the world will be a different place, because I did something so mind bafflingly eccentric that my ruins have become a tourist attraction.

Welcome from Victoria. I know a Lutheran pastor (Holy Hector on XMarks) with the Clergy Tartan -- it is quite a lovely piece of cloth.
