Amo: From Hawick to Utah
Hullo to all on this great site! I'm a newbie to this forum and kilting, but definitely not in appreciation for my Scott and Elliot heritage. My great grandfather grew up in Hawick before emigrating to Canada. His son, my "Grandpa Scott" (profile picture) instilled in my mother a great appreciation for his culture and heritage, which in turn became a huge influence in my youth.
My wife and I will be making a pilgrimage from Utah to Scotland for the first time in August to see Runrig's Last Dance. Our trip will take us all around the Highlands, Lowlands, and Hebrides with a grand finale at Stirling for the concert. A few months back I splurged and purchased a 8yd 16oz custom made kilt in Scott Weathered Green for the occasion. I don't plan on wearing it for the duration of our trip, but seeing Runrig play (for the first time and at their final act no less) will be a wedding, funeral, and church experience all rolled into one, so I figured the only appropriate way to see them would be kilted.
This forum has been instrumental in my kilting experience to date and I appreciate the encouraging attitude expressed by its members. Hopefully some day I will be as seasoned and wise in all things kilt that I can contribute in a meaningful way to a new generation of kilt wearers.
If anyone else here happens to be in Scotland for the Runrig concert, keep an eye out for my ensemble and please say hello!

P.S. - I tried my hand at leather-working for the first time on the sporran, inspired by the work of the great Artificer.

Welcome and if that's your first attempt at a sporran you might want to consider it as a career, very nice.

Well met and welcome Harley. Good looking sporran you have there. It sounds like a great trip ahead for you and the misses. I hope you are joined by other members during the concert and have the time of your lives. Post photos and info when you can. Glad to have you aboard.

Welcome aboard, Harl. Great job on the sporran. Would love to see more of it, if you have photos to post.
