Another "hello!" from Charlotte, NC!
Hey guys (and gals)! Glad to be here!
My name is Mark (NOT Alister). In addition to @scottishlass, I am also from Charlotte, NC. Clan MacAlister (Alexander on my mother's side).
I really suck at written biographies and introductions. These things are best said over a pint or a wee dram.
I enjoy the regional games in North Carolina, and I am an active member of the New World Celts, which affords me wonderful opportunities for charity and fundraising (and of course wearing my kilt out and about).
I guess the main driving force behind my involvement and deep love for Scottish heritage and greater Celtic heritage as a whole is that there are not too many folks in my age group (early, mid, late 20s) who have really invested in their ancestry. Sure, we see lots of people at the Games observing, but how many of them are actively engaged in seeking out their Clan and contributing to the overall experience? I see a lot of people running these tents for the clans getting up in age, but what I do not see is enough young people stepping up so that the torch might be passed down to the next generation. I know for MacAlister, we are blessed to have more than a few younger guys and gals who always step up, and I am glad to be a part of the new generation. I love the community of the Games, the camaraderie, the music, everything.
It's my desire to bring that passion to this forum in any way I can.
Cheers!
-Mark Alexander

Well met Mark. I spent my youth (during the 1960's) listening to the grandparents cite the family history. I didn't get to the level I am now until I was in my 40's. I plan to shame my grandson into taking up the banner when I get too old, or tired.
I also have great nephews and nieces that are already interested and in their teens. Glad to have you with us and appreciate your youth and drive to keep the cultural connection alive.

Hey back to you 'very real' Mark; welcome to X Marks from lower, slower Delaware. I very much enjoyed your introduction and your profile posting. I'm so glad that, as a young person, you are firmly in touch with your cultural heritage and only wish that I would have been when I was your age. Fortunately, my wife (McMunn) was brought up very much engaged in her Scottish heritage in that her grandmother was an immigrant from Scotland and has encouraged and supported my interest.
Your enthusiasm will be quite welcome and refreshing amongst the rabble and I look forward to your participation.

Simon Fraser fought as MacShimidh, a Highland chief… wrapped and belted in a plaid over the top of his linen shirt, like his ordinary kinsmen. He put a bonnet on his head, and stuck the Fraser emblem, a sprig of yew, in it. With the battle cry, A'Chaisteal Dhunaidh and the scream of the pipes, they charged to battle. Hello, Mark, and welcome from a Scotsman living in the English midlands.
It's great that you're interested in your ancestry at such a young age. I started a lot later, by which time older relatives (who would have been a good information source) were no longer in the land of the living.
All the best.

Well I didn't want to shoot the moon. Goes without saying that nothing fixes your wagon (ahem ) like a good plate of haggis and eggs after a wild night. Our local MacAlisters in Greensboro certainly do know a good time
