Another newbie, from Texas
Hello all. I'm Steve Bentle and I call Dallas, Texas, home! I was born and raised right here in Dallas and the suburbs and have no plans to leave. I'm retired but work part time, so I have plenty of time to explore.
I came across this site while exploring and learning what's what about kilts. I looked at so many sites, I'm not even sure which one brought me here, but sure glad it did. I was able to get in and read enough to know that this is where I wanted to be, to learn and to enjoy.
I have wanted a kilt for years and I remember checking out kilts probably 30 years ago or more. I've been that interested in them, truly as far back as I can remember. I just never had the guts to do anything other than look and wish. My mother always said we were a mixture of Scotch, Irish, French, Indian, and English so we are truly a hodge podge. Maybe it was her letting us know our heritage that got me to thinking of owning a kilt as she always named off our heritage in the order as I just did. I don't know if we have any more of one than another but I wanted a kilt. Only recently, have I purchased my first kilt. It's just a utilikilt, but I'm thinking if I can break down and buy that first one, then I will eventually want to invest in the real tartan plaid. I remember years ago doing some research to try to find out what clan I may belong to, but didn't follow through. I am still waiting for the call that the kilt has come in, as it had to be ordered in my size. I know I'm excited, and ready for it to come in and as each day goes by, I keep thinking of different places that I will wear it. I sure don't want to buy something that goes in a closet and stays there.
I actually came across the kilt while at a leather shop looking for something for Halloween. I had given up finding anything in the shop when I came across "IT", and knew I had to break down and get it. It called my and I fell in love with it the moment I walked by. That kilt had my name written all over it and it shouted out to me and I knew it was for me. My luck, they didn't have one that fit, so it's on order and I'm looking forward to getting it, like a kid getting a new toy! I've already getting lined up for the Highland games here in Dallas and the Renaissance faire!
I'm so glad to be joining all of you and look forward to learning from you all, the ins and outs. I want to thank the site owner for letting me be a part of the group and I look forward to getting some of you. When my kilt comes in, I will get a picture and post it on my profile.
