Another from Western North Carolina
Hello all!
My name is Tyler, and I live in Asheville, North Carolina. I've noticed there are quite a few members in this part of the world, and I look forward to meeting you all. I've recently purchased a Sportkilt in the Mackay tartan. This will be my first kilt; I figured I should start with a "beginner" kilt to see how I like the kilted life before making an investment. My wife and I will be going to the Highlands in the spring on holiday, and my intent is to be fitted for and purchase a kilt there.
I have been hanging around on the forum and reading for several weeks, and have already learned so much. I originally found this forum while doing some genealogical research (I was researching the Mackay tartan), and continually find myself perusing the forums for hours at a time. You all really have a nice community here.
I look forward to many great conversations in the future. If any of you are ever in Asheville, be sure to let me know and we'll go have a pint or three!
Kind regards,
Tyler

Welcome from a fellow Appalachian Highlander! (Central West Virginia.)
Yes you're in a great part of the world for Scottish heritage things.
There are very nice Highland Gatherings at Lake Norman and Grandfather Mountain.
My mother lived for a few years in Elizabethton TN and I'd attend Grandfather Mountain while visiting, and a few years ago I drove down to "Loch Norman" for their Gathering & Games.
MacKay is a wonderful tartan. They copied it for the TV show Outlander.
Anyhow though in California now I still regularly visit family in West Virginia and I might see you at one of the NC Games sometime.

Thank you for the welcome!
My boss attended the Grandfather Mtn games this year, but I was working. I definitely plan to go next year as I have never been. I'll have to look into the Loch Norman games. I'm going to try to make it to the Stone Mountain games.
I didn't know that Outlander copied the MacKay tartan. The wife and I watch the show, but that never clicked in my head. I'll have to pay better attention!
