Colorado native in Japan
Howdy. I moved to Japan from the USA in 2001 and have been making a modest career here playing the piano.
I recently inherited a kilt from my dad since his passing last year. Having never owned a kilt before, I found this website very useful. I had actually taken up playing the bagpipes many years ago, but never have played them professionally or anything like that. But now at least I have the garb for it, and the Japanese seem to get a kick out of it too. Actually I was surprised to find out Tokyo has a pipes and drums band and hosts a Highlands event every October, so of course Scottish culture is not totally unheard of here.

If you ever get up the gumption there is a bar in Motoyawata, Ichikawa that is Scottish themed, and has a fantastic selection of whiskey. It's called Bar Peat, and they probably have a web site. Be warned, it isn't very lively, in fact its quite quiet, but that makes it is a good date spot.
And welcome.

Welcome, from 2 hours over in Yamanashi Prefecture.
Yes, there certainly some active Scottish culture here... I would suggest joining the St. Andrews Society of Tokyo and Yokohama. In fact, the Burns supper is next weekend, although I think the last call for tickets may have already passed. They are also the ones who organize the annual Highland Games.

Yôkoso!!
I spent much enjoyable time with the St. Andrews Society of Tokyo. Their highland festival was a lot of fun, and the Japanese folks really seem to have gone for the haggis -- much to our surprise.
