Looking around for tips I ran across this forum and I like what I see. So I joined up and plan on sharing anything I learn on my journey. Thing is I need to finish my first kilt in 3 days. Nothing like a little pressure to start off the weekend. Any tips on what design would be the easiest for a beginner? Blade or box pleats? My sewing skills are intermediate hand or machine.
I'm afraid I haven't make my first kilt yet, but welcome from a fellow Wisconsinite! (Born and raised in Green Bay.)
I'd recommend a solid fabric (no stripes to match), knife pleats (easier to add/subtract and faster to calculate), and the most accurate measurements you can get. Then all you need is time, energy, and good luck.
A warm welcome to the forum from London. best regards

from coastal North Carolina. The X-Kilt is probably the easiest for a beginner. Here's a link to the instructions: http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/x...t+instructions Brian

from WV! I can only suggest knife pleats, as I have not yet made a box pleat. Tartan material is great as you line up the sett (or pattern) and don't need to measure as much as solid material. I have made 3 kilts with no pattern and they turned out fine. You can use a pattern, but it's not completely necessary.
