Daywear Jacket & Waistcoat
I'm scouring the web. I'm specifically looking for Lovat Green with Gauntlet sleeves, preferably in Harris tweed or similar quality. I am going to Edinburgh for Xmas/New year but I would only have 24 hours cushion of time to find what I want and that's cutting it a bit close for my comfort. I need 52" regular in size on both. Any suggesions? Got a sample from Lochcarron but they don't have the correct colour.
I'm new to this list, hail from Edinburgh and live in the San Diego area. Been to RP Blandford who are unable to help on this one.
Cheers for any advice.

Re: Daywear Jacket & Waistcoat
Hello and from the wooded highlands of north central Tennessee.
How lucky you are to live in/near San Diego (I'm a California native) -- no better weather anywhere! Unfortunately I don't have any advice on finding a lovet green kilt jacket of the kind you describe. I was lucky to find one (in the Argyle style) several years ago but haven't seen many since. Good luck and at least you are in the right place to get the advice you seek. Welcome to the rabble.

About the only place in Edinburgh you would pick up a ready made jacket and vest would be from Hector Russell. However, I THINK their sleeves are Crail style. You might also try Kinloch Anderson and Geoffrey (Tailor) on the off-chance
For one made to measure you need to allow 6 to 8 weeks and there is usually a surcharge on a 52" chest but either Kinloch Anderson or Geoffrey (Tailor) should be able to make a jacket for you in the exact tweed you require and both are used to dealing with international orders
Anyway,

How much are you willing to spend?

I've never bought from these chaps but this came up on a t'interweb search... J.Higgins $295. (They are based in Kansas) 8 week wait on the green ones. Should be able to get one before Christmas if you ordered now. Custom made too by the sounds of it.
Use the contact page to email them and ask.

Re: Daywear Jacket & Waistcoat
There's a small shop in Coronado that has a pretty good selection of Highland wear. I bought a kilt there about 15 years ago when I was stationed at Miramar. The owner/proprietor is from Scotland and is exceptionally well-versed in Highland dress. Here's the link : Scottish Treasures
I just wandered in one day and bought a kilt. I'm sure they'll be able to help you out. If they don't have it in stock, I'm sure they'd order it for you.
Also... There's a great ice cream shop right next door...

I have two Higgins jacket/waistcoat sets in barathea and grey tweed Argylls, and they fit well and look nice. Be aware that the price Bloke mentions above does NOT include a waistcoat, only the jacket. They order their jackets from a tailor in the UK so it will likely take as long as any of the scottish makers to arrive. What you save in customs duties by ordering from this US merchant, however, is made up for by their up front pricing, in my estimation. Unless you contact a vendor directly about having your size in stock (and remember that a US 52 is more like a UK 54---not a typically commonly stocked size) the likelihood of getting anything in under 8-12 weeks is slim. Hector Russell is likely your best bet to actually have it in stock, maybe St Kilda, but just about everybody else will be sending the order out to their tailor. Depending on the status of their tailors some of the vendors here on the forum might be able to turn your order around faster and for a reasonable price.

Re: Daywear Jacket & Waistcoat
I know you said you got a sample from Lochcarron but they do appear to have three shades of green (as far as I can tell from the colour chart) and their jackets can be ordered from Burnett's & Struth who advertise here in the forum
See http://www.burnetts-struth.com/produ...ay-Jacket.html
Unless you really want to purchase when you are in Edinburgh I would have thought it would be an advantage to get one direct from a US supplier and thus avoid the unknown quantity of import duties

Just for the record B&S are a Canadian company, but I believe their goods cross the borders without duty due to NAFTA, in general. Nothing I have ever ordered from them has come with any customs notifications of duty.
