    Distaff question.

I should like to know what a wife may properly wear other than her husband's crest in a belt and buckle as a clan badge. Is her husband's crest properly worn in other ways?

It's quite rare that one's husband is armigerous. Most ladies, and men, wear the crest of their clan's chief within a strap and buckle.

    Hello Sassylassie,

Welcome to XMarks from the other side of the Atlantic in Norfolk, England.

Harold is quite right. Heraldicly speaking, a wife should wear her husbands crest first. If he is not armigerous, then her Chief's. Before her marriage, as part of her father's household, she should wear her fathers crest.

    Regards

    Chas

I think perhaps the OP is not asking may she wear her husband's crest (or his chief's crest) in a belt and buckle for a clan badge but rather, is there anything else that she may wear in place of this clan badge (maybe a brooch or something?), still displaying an appartenance to her husband's clan (if I understood the OP's question correctly).

Hi, Sassylassie, and welcome to X Marks.
The crest badge you wear ought to have some connection with the tartan you have on.
So if you wear your husband’s tartan, you may presumably also wear the same crest he does – perhaps as a brooch.
There are many who believe a wife should only wear her husband’s tartan (or another of the same clan), but you are free to choose whatever tartan is appropriate – your own family’s, or a district or fashion tartan.
Fashion tartans don’t have appropriate badges, but with a district tartan (or a district-named fashion tartan) you might wear a brooch that alludes to the district in question.
    Whatever you decide, enjoy it!
    Regards,
    Mike
