First Kilt

Finally got my first kilt via FedEx from Sport Kilt, and also the accessories that go with it. I reallllly like it! Such a comfortable garment... beats the pants out of pants. I bought Sport Kilt's Big Blue tartan; it most closely matches the Ramsey tartan I looked up. Gonna wear this for our 25th wedding anniversary. My wife loves it! Attached is photo....

Recently ordered a second kilt, one for going out and about in. It is an olive colored utility type kilt from AmeriKilt. Have not recieved it yet, but looking forward to it.

Talked to a guy who works in Macy's down in Phoenix whilst waiting for my wife to shop. I mentioned to him about the kilt I had ordered and he really perked up with interest (I was not wearing one at the time). To make a long story short, he comes from Scottish heritage and always wanted to wear a kilt, but never had access to any. So I gave him the name of several manufacturers in the USA to check online. He then said he will order one, and that I had better be wearing mine the next time I show up at that store..... wow, what a cool response.

The down side is that the whole time I was at the mall, walking up and down and seeing thousands of people, and the whole time I was in Phoenix, I never saw one person wearing a kilt of any kind. Hmmm....

Yeah, you probably won't, at least not very often. I've lived in the Phoenix area, off and on, for over 25 years and I can only think of two times I've seen someone in a kilt (with the exception of a pipe band or two).

But, having said that, when I wear mine, and I wear it quite a bit, I get positive attention or I get ignored just as if I were wearing pants.

I can recall two occasions where someone (in each case an older man) gave me a scowling stink-eye look and one instance where a teenager yelled something rude, but otherwise, I've received innumerable compliments, everything from "I like your kilt" to
"nice outfit" to "that's badass."
