First Kilt -- need advice
Hello, all. My niece has asked me to officiate at her December wedding, all in Scottish wear to honor her deceased grandmother (and my mother). Our clan is Moffat, so I'm going to Scotland to buy a kilt suitable for the occasion.
I'm looking for advice on kilt style and where to find a reputable and reasonable firm to have the kilt made.
Thanks in advance for the board's members for any help you can provide.

from Chicago. For the wedding you'll probably want a traditional 8 yard knife-pleated kilt. If you are clergy and don't want the Moffat pattern you can look at the various Clerk (clergy, Clark) tartans. You can find variations at the Tartan Ferret here.

Information please...
Where are you currently located? If you are in the States or Canada, there are plenty of reputable kilt makers on this side of the pond. Now, if you want to go to Scotland, by all means go to Scotland - I just want to make sure you are aware of other possibilities.
Will you be the only kilted gent at the wedding - or part a larger contingent of kilted gents? You may need to think about co-ordinating your kit with the rest of the group. For a wedding, the kilt is just the beginning, you may need other costly items as well.
Do you see this as a "one-off" experience or the beginning of a larger commitment to kilt wearing?
Finally, are you working with a set budget? If so - about how much would you like to spend?
A bit more information may help us provide better advice.
Welcome to XMarks and good luck!

Hello and welcome from Texas. A lot of options are available, more information can help make it easier.

Welcome from Inverness-shire. More questions I am afraid. How formal is the wedding? Do you have to come to Scotland to get your kilt and sundry attire? One more thing, time is not on your side if you need to have a kilt made, so I would not advise lingering on your decision.

I would echo what pdcorlis and Jock Scot had to say. As for advice I'd say take a look at the 1 kilt 10 looks thread here. Just so you know a kilt a proper kilt, the traditional variety you would want for such an occasion is a tailored garment, as such you may well be out of time already, I once waited 9 months for a kilt so I would find a kilt maker near you whether you are in Scotland or not and get going on it soon.
