From Florida
Hi all. I was doing some genealogical messing about on ancestry.com and worked my way back to a few Scottish and Irish families, the rest being English on my mother's side. Don't know much at all about my father's side. Then I saw a poster for the Ocala Scottish Highland Games in a sushi restaurant (wait, it gets better, at least I think it does) and saw that they were having clan booths so I figured I'd Web crawl about clans, remembering that I had found Scottish roots. I found Clan Maxwell USA, which linked with Maxwells way far back in my mother's father's line and on their Web site Moss is listed as an allied family. Hot damn, MY name is Moss. So I sent in my application.
AND (not done yet) my 14 year old West Highland White Terrier is named Maxwell, after James Clerk Maxwell, the great Scottish physicist, because he (the dog) is Scottish and I'm a physicist. What a lovely circular connection this all is.
AND my wife, in a fit of absent-mindedness or inattention, said that I could learn to play the bagpipes (found a source for lessons in town, too) which pretty much necessitates a kilt, so here I am to learn how.
Thanks for all the neat stuff you folks post

I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

Wow! Look at all these Tennesseans chiming in. My maternal great Grandmother was a Moss. I had know of the Maxwell connection.
