Hi folks,
After putting off the inevitable for years, I've finally gotten my first kilt. I've spent the past few days making a belt and sporran, and tomorrow the metal shop guys at the local community college are going to heat treat the blade for the sgian dubh I'm making.
My great grandfather immigrated to the USA from Scotland. He was from the area south of Loch Ness, and my family was apparently a sept of the MacDonell's of Glengarry. My new kilt is in MacDonald tartan (close enough...I couldn't afford to have one made in the Glengarry plaid)
I work as a hike leader in Montreat, NC, during the sumer, home to a large Presbyterian conference center with strong Scottish roots. I plan on hiking kilted as often as possible. Come join us if you're in the area!
Anyway, I've been lurking here for some time and have already learned much from reading your posts. I look forward to this new adventure. (and as I am frighteningly close to the half-century mark, new adventures are wonderful!)
Bill
