G'day from Australia
G'day all ... Already a member of another great forum which has a big kilt component . Was told about this dedicated kilt forum and thanks to Steve I have been allowed to come on board here as well ,,Thank you .
Same applies to my cars interests and fishing and model rail ..Forums are just incredible ways to spread the love of your passions in life..
I am 63 and live on Australia's island State (Tasmania) . I work at our local District School in rural Tassie .. About 350 students and 50 staff . Not a teacher but an ancillary staff member for 28 years .. Love golf , lawn bowls , used to play cricket , mad fan of the Richmond Tigers in the AFL , fishing nut both sea and fresh water , hiker /bushwalker , love cars and own a 2008 FG Ford Falcon XR6..Also collecting and fixing wrist watches..have many. Own a kelpie sheepdog and a very elderly border collie ..and model rail lunatic ..HO scale modelling Santa Fe /BNSF transition era.. Lots to do and enjoy ..
Both sides of my family hail from Scotland and Ireland so celtic blood in my veins. LOVE KILTS... I have always loved kilts ..As a kid 10 years old I vividly remember both me and a cousin dressed in little kilts for a family wedding and the interest was always there . In the next 20 years or so it lay dormant but strong . One day by chance I was in an Opportunity Shop (Thrift Store to some} and spotted a kilt hanging in the mens clothing section . It was $15 ..in great order and it fitted..Bought it and bought a dozen or more since along with a leather one , a few khaki/cotton/ canvas ones like Utilikilts..I like traditional and these types all the same..
Only wear them here and there and not full time...one day when I'm retired , maybe ..we will see.. Hoping the members of this forum like the other one will help me discover even more joys of this ancient garment that we undoubtedly all love..
Thank you for allowing me to share my story... Cheers ...

Thank you guys....I'm sitting in my loungeroom 6.45 am on a warm Saturday morning ...going to be 29 C and we're going surf fishing on the turn of the tide at 1.pm for blackback salmon .Been up for an hour already. Chucked on one of my Mountain Hardware kilts this morning .. Love these ...really light almost skirt like but not . Wear these 50mm above the knee and wear them bushwalking in the rain because they are really water resistant ..
Already the Forum is so fun and hope to contribute ...oh yes and get some great advice ...The avatar pic I only took yesterday up on South Sister Lookout .. While Tasmania hasn't got super tall mountains ...we have thousands of them , My town is about 1000 people and we have St.Patricks Head , South Sister , North Sister , Mt Elephant , Mt Sugar Loaf , Mt Victoria , Stacks Bluff , Ben Lomond (ski fields up there) ,Mt Nicholas and others ..South Sister is 2800 ft and is home to all, the TV , radio , fire lookout , phone towers also and a scenic lookout , St Patricks Head is 2400ish ft ,and looks like a volcano and overhangs the town (St.Marys)., Two Passes to the coast .. St Marys Pass finished in 1846 I think and Elephant Pass... From my place even though I'm up in the Fingal Valley I can be beach or estuary fishing in less than 30 minutes ...So cool ... Tassie is about the same size as Sri Lanka , Ireland and for U.S . forumers West Virginia . Only 580,000 people ... I'll shut up now but thrilled to be part of this crew .
