    Greetings

Greetings from the soon to be frosty north of upstate NY. I had an interesting question that I can't seem to get a clear answer on, or rather, I just wondered what the general consensus would be.

I wanted to get the american heritage tartan from usa kilts. Now... I picked up a brown leather jacobite sporran. With brown strap and brown belt the whole 9. Anyway. I'm curious as to what this combo would look like and if a mostly black tartan with a brown sporran and all. Visually speaking I have a feeling it would clash. Wondering if I should go with a different more brown or green tartan. Just pondering and if anyone had gone this route before or had some pictures of what this combo would look like.

    Thanks!
    Glad to be here btw.

Welcome from Albany, NY! What part of upstate are you from?

As far as the kilt goes, I've seen predominently black kilts that look good with brown accessories but I've also seen them that wouldn't look so good with brown accessories. I think you have to consider the other colors in the tartan. As a general rule, however, I'd try to match accessories to the dominant color in the tartan.

    from Ithaca, NY!

As far as clothing advice goes I'm not really one to give very much help in that department. My wife helps me out in that department.

Saratoga repping the 5 1 8 (haha). I wonder if anyone with the tartan has worn it with brown. Just curious. It is mainly black however. I dunno.

from Toronto Ontario Canada, just the other side of the lake.

I've seen the American Heritage however I've not seen it with Brown accessories it may look good as others have said I've seen other dark tartans worn with brown accessories and it looks fine. I think the other accessories worn, hose, shirt etc. may do a lot in bringing it all together.

It is certainly up to you, but the brown leather on American Heritage just wouldn't look quite right to me. But again, it's up to you and if you like it, that's the answer! Oh, and welcome from Fort Worth!
